Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1- how you annoy me, let me count the ways

So, like most the population I went and saw the first part of the third Hunger Games movie, Mockingjay Part 1, this past weekend. And don't get me wrong- it was a great movie, well done, good acting, suspenseful, exciting and dramatic, but not very funny...

That might sound weird, but compared to the books (which I will very much do because they are favorites of mine) it was completely lacking in the humor department. LIKE ALL OF MY FAVORITE SCENES WERE GONE!

I was discussing this with my friends when I walked out of the theater- that they had left out on of my favorite scenes of dialogue from the storyline. Not the scene itself, because that's still in the movie but the funny part that happened in the book. Several in fact- to the point that they basically left every funny scene in the book out. Why? Is there any legitimate reason for this? I can only reflect that it is meant for the subject matter of the story- uprising, rebellions, a society that is falling apart. Even so, isn't humor what helps make us human? That we can laugh, find the silly things in life and still carry on even in the worst times. The comedic relief here was few and far between, and completely unnecessary because it is present in the book. Is there a message to to this madness or am I just reading way too much into it. Who knows.

Either way the movie was good and I was very impressed with Josh Hutcherson. When he was first cast in the role of Peeta this is the book that scared me the most for him, would Josh be able to be third book Peeta? Could his acting push himself into that role? So far- yes, he had some excellent scenes and I'm intrigued to see how he does in the second half.

And that's my rant about the hunger games. bah-humbug.

  1. So true about some good parts being missing. I enjoyed it though - as a bit of Saturday afternoon entertainment with the actors feeling like people I knew. I don't like how Katniss sometimes seems like this weak hero....but that's just me

  2. I agree with that too, although she is meant to be a little crazy/out of it in this book/movie, which they could have played up even more in reality.. the movie was good, just not compared to the book (something I really need to stop doing with every book to movie!)

  6. I loved the first two books, but HATED the 3rd one! The movies so far have been a fresh breath of air for me, and I think that may be due to Jennifer Lawrence's performance and likeability as an actor (or maybe it's the director's handiwork idk). I must say I do not have high hopes for the last installment but I will be going to theaters to watch irregardless :D

  7. same- I really want to see gone girl but people have already told me they made some changes. I just don't understand why?! it's already so good on its own- doesn't need to be tweaked!

  8. It was a really good movie- just not compared to the book, I really need to stop doing the comparison thing. my own fault, I know. Hope you liked it!

  9. I mean the movie was still fantastic, I just know the books backwards and forwards and they keep changing really great things. My movie vs. book comparisons just really need to stop. I already made a pact a few years ago to not read books before the movies but the details still seem to slip through in my mind.. just need to keep reminding myself they are separate things, separate things!

  10. funny enough I hated the 3rd book the first time i read it too, but the more times I re-read it the more I love it. And the 3rd movie was great, and hopefully the 4th will be as well- I just really need to stop comparing them to the books. It is upsetting though when they leave out things that you know the readers liked and would have enjoyed to see on film.

  11. I think because I haven't and refuse to re-read the 3rd book, I didn't notice too many big things that they left out but I caught little things here and there. I hope the last installment isn't as awful as the second part of the 3rd book lol!
