The Dating Game: Round 2

Surprise! I went on another date this past Monday.

I would say this one was even more successful than the last one.. so far off to a great start!

What I Wore: #worstbloggerever because I, once again, did not take a picture of my outfit. I will tell you anyways.. I wore jeans (kensie jeans from my first Stitch Fix box) and a this super cute embroidered top I just bought from Old Navy for $8! Plus my gold sandals. Messy bun for hair, minimal makeup.

What He Said First: This one was met on tinder- this is actually the first person I've ever met face to face from tinder. And opposed to many of the people I speak to on there he is making some effort to get to know me. We both swiped right (yes) and then he reached out first with "Hey Rebekah how goes it". I replied (obviously) and we chatted that night for quite sometime. I eventually asked to move it off the app and we exchanged numbers.

This is the same guy that cancelled on me a few weeks ago- I know, I know. Usually I have a one-time chance policy and once you cancel you are out, but after cancelling he continued to reach out so I continued to answer. Finally last week I got fed up and asked him if he wanted to meet for coffee or a drink sometime. Which then led to meeting up on Monday.

The Details:  We met a cafe near my place of work that has coffee, teas, smoothies, etc. He doesn't drink caffeine so I figured it was a safe location. After we got drinks we walked around the neighborhood, over to Museum of Natural History, around Central Park for a bit. He came in from NJ and had parked his car near a meter so we walked back after about an hour and then sat on a bench in front of his car and talked until I had to grab the munchkins from school.

Ranking: A Kiss- he was super nice, we've actually already made tentative plans to meet-up again. I've had good first dates, and awful second dates so we will see what happens. And if anything it was good company the first time, so I hope it will be the second time.

And that's all you get.
Until the next one...

AND on a side note- Today is my nephew's FIRST birthday! I seriously can't believe it has already been a year since the little booger was born. Happy Birthday from Auntie Bek!

I'm like you what to call... American!

One of my biggest pet peeves in life is when someone asks me what I am, or where my family is from.

This might stem from one of my favorite books- A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, where the main character, Francie, is asked in school one day what her nationality is. While all the other kids in the room say something along the lines of American-Polish, American-Irish, American-Russian and so fourth, when the teacher gets to Francie she replies "American." The teacher is startled and asks well... where were your parents born? Francie replies, America. The teacher says something along the lines of "oh, I guess you are American then." Damn right she's American, that's where she lives and that is where she was born.

Now don't get me wrong, I love history and my heritage and learning about the past generations of my family. But I'm American, my parent's are American, and my grandparents are American. In fact, on my maternal-father's side my family has been here since the 1600s, and on my maternal-mother's side I have relatives that were/are Native American.

I understand that America is a young country, relatively- but when are we actually going to start referring to ourselves as Americans? And why do we have to continue asking each other where we are from? I from Florida. End of Story (which actually isn't even true, because I was actually born in Georgia, but grew up in Florida.) Why does my answer have to be a country that I haven't had relatives in, in over 400 years.

Welcome to 'Murica- where no one seems to actually consider themselves American?

My point being, be proud of your heritage and your family and whatever else you want to be proud of- but when someone asks you where or your family are from, let's start answering from where both parents were born- just like they did 100 years ago. And some of you might actually be able to say Italian, or Russian-American and that is totally cool if that is the case. But if you can track at least your grandparents back to being born in the United States of America- then you are in fact, American.

And that concludes my rant... thank you!

The Dating Game: Round 1

I didn't do much of anything this weekend except get my hair trimmed and saw the new planet of the apes movie (super good!) so I'm just going to jump in on my date from last week...

What I Wore: I forgot to take a picture because I'm a bad blogger... but I wore the blue top I got from my second Stitch Fix box (seen here) as well as the kensie jeans I received from my first Stitch Fix box (seen here and here). I had been at work all day so I wore my hair in low messy bun, along with some gold sandals from Target.

What he said first: This man messaged me first on match.com. He first asked me what tv shows I was currently watching. And that started our conversation..

The Details: After messaging, texting and talking for a bit he finally asked me if I wanted grab a coffee or something. I said yes, and he picked a Starbucks to meet at on a Wednesday night... a little lame in my opinion but also a very public place- but who drinks coffee at 8:30 at night? Not I. We met outside and said hello, went in and got our drinks, which he paid for. We sat down at the front of the store and chatted for about an hour. It was a fine time but nothing crazy- he definitely seemed super into himself and his job, mostly discussed that with very few questions towards me. He was nice though, I've been on creepy dates before and this was not one of them.

Ranking: A Hug- I had an okay time, if he called again I would respond but I don't feel the need to reach out to him myself. Most likely I will never hear from him again though and I am also completely okay with that.

And there you have it! Date number one is under the belt... now onward

A to the MEN

Happy August everyone (and happy Friday)! 'Tis finally the month of my birth- along with so many others in my family. All sorts of things are going on as the summer starts to wind down... in the next few weeks I have birthday parties to attend, bridal showers to celebrate, my own 27th birthday rocking the house and I'm off to Spain and France with work. Crazy town.

This week was pretty chilll- spent a lot of hours combing through all of the pictures on the work computer, printing them, filing them and enjoying my munchkins adorable faces...

Five Things for the Week!

1) If you missed it- yesterday was Harry Potter's birthday. He's pretty much the coolest person I know so props were totes given. I legit want to shout my love of him to the sky, to the universe, to all the maybe aliens out there... the love is real!

2) Went on a date this week! Will be updating next week- it was interesting...

3) Did anyone else see this article on facebook? The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be single? Might just be all the answers to my problems, haha!

4) I'm in desperate need of finding some heels for my sisters wedding- she wants silver or nude? anyone have any store suggestions? My feet suck so the more comfortable the better!!

5) And y'all remember a few weeks ago when I introduced my friend Jeanette, and her amazing business Peachy Keen Perfume? Well they were just nominated for the Martha Stewart American Made Award- I'm so proud and excited for them!! Help them out by sharing their page link (here)!

and I'm adding a 6) because I'm cool like that but also new Nsync album?! Can I get a what what?? (so surprising none of the members even knew it was being released!)

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
